Naturalist Scouts of the Universe!

1. What is the Naturalist Scouts of the Universe?
It's actually the Naturalist Scouts of Atlanta, but the web site is called something different because I don't want their names to match. I'm Nicolaus and I am the leader of the whole thing. There are different leaders of different ages, I'm like the fit together leader of all the leaders that like fits all the leaders together.

I help kids earn patches. I use a chair and a desk and everything I use when I do my naturalist work but if you don't have a chair or a desk and everything it's okay, you can use someone else's. Or you can just stand up.

There are different levels in the Naturalist Scouts.

  • First level: Cygnets. Newborn babies until they are one years old.
  • Second level, Cygnet SCOUTS. One year olds and toddlers.
  • Age three - Tree Huggers.
  • When you're four you are a Coast Guard Cutter In Training.
  • When you're four and a HALF, you become a full Coast Guard Cutter and your job is to go way out into the ocean every chance you get and save whales and dolphins and sea turtles and any other endangered animals you can find in the sea. Even octopuses and squids and cuttlefish.It can be a dangerous job, so we don't let babies be Coast Guard Cutters. Eels could bite them or sharks might attack them or they could drown. But we have giant life rings for in case a baby has a bigger brother who is a coast guard cutter who cares a lot about animals. We even bring bows and arrows that can shoot out floating buoys so we can seriously save their baby brother's LIFE.

2. Who can join the Naturalist Scouts?
Any kid who is interested in nature. Kids who want to kill animals and cut down trees and stuff like that can NOT join. If you are a kid who practices bows and arrows by shooting at trees you can not join! That hurts the trees and the trees are like OWOW OW! And you THINK oh I'm not cutting any trees down it's okay but no. It really actually does hurt the trees much more than you think.

If a Naturalist Scout decides I'm not going to mind my boss or anything and the boss catches them killing animals or hurting trees, the boss will fire them immediately. And if they won't get out of the scouts the boss might even lift up a bow and arrow and make it LOOK like I'm acting like I'm seriously going to shoot them so they will run away. I pull it back like I'm going to shoot them, they run away and after they run away I lower my arrow. If they ever come back I explain to them they didn't do a very good job, so they can't come back.

3. How to join

Just tell me you are in the Naturalist Scouts and what level you are and what kinds of things you're going to do for patches because I really like to know when other kids become Naturalist Scouts because I am the leader and I want there to be more kids joined in our group.

You get a leader and that leader can be your parents because they have to drive you to places where you do the naturalist scouts.

4. How to earn patches
It's up to scouts leaders to tell them what things to do to earn new patches.

Like if you find a leaf glue it down to a piece of paper and then cut the leaf out and you have a piece of paper. Please put glue on the back of the piece of paper and stick it on a wall somewhere in your house. Is that naturey OR WHAT? If you ever move you will just pull it off of there and put more glue and stick it somewhere in your new house or apartment or whatever place your parents move to with you.

You could also do anything brave or anything to help clean up littering or to help save animals you find.

Choose any patches that are animals that are REAL LOOKING animals, or just any naturey patches that you like! (note from Tiffany: I like this site for nature patches )

5. The uniform
The Naturalist Scouts uniform is a VEST with NO SHIRT. But! If it's winter time, please wear a shirt. Also wear a hat with a turtle patch or a swan patch on it. Please wear jeans - you know why? Because we're going to do a lot of going out in the desert and a cactus or throny devil might go UUUUUUUOOOOOGH right into your leg and jeans will protect you from that. Also please wear tennis shoes because of the same cactuses and things like that. The leader will put patches all over the vest for you by ironing them for you.

6. Equipment

You have to have certain things that you need at your desk:

A globe, if you are a coast guard cutter

A microscope for like studying things from nature that look cool

Special gloves that you need in case you find a thorny devil. If you don't have any gloves please pick him up from underneath carefully and take him to your lab and study him there and please be very careful

Any antiques that you find out in nature, like a lead bullet

A telescope camera, that's actually also a metal detector or like a woodpecker tool that can actually drill down trees. If you don't have the right things like those tools or tape or a phone that we use to call animal services or the scouts group? You may use your bosses office and use anything you can find in there and it's okay.
